Updates and more updates

I had an appt with my OBGYN yesterday. She said my miscarriage was probably caused by a chromosomal defect and not by my endometriosis. So, that's good news. She also said we could start trying to conceive again in about 6 to 8 weeks.

I am feeling better today about the miscarriage. It's time to find the humor again. I haven't cried at all today and I even got motivated and took my son to a toy store. I couldn't get him to let go of a giant, stuffed lion that he pulled off the shelf, so I distracted him with a stuffed ray gun and put the lion back. But then he wouldn't let go of the ray gun, so I just bought it for him. He deserved a treat after hanging with stone-faced, zombie mom for the last three days.

My husband hasn't found a job yet, but we are hopeful.

My son's sinus infection is finally gone (thanks to vitamins and probiotics, NOT antibiotics) and his first birthday is on Friday! We are having a party for him on Saturday afternoon. Somehow it has turned into a much bigger to-do than I had originally planned. Does this always happen with children's parties? This is my first experience. Should I just expect this to happen from now on? Plan to invite 5 and actually invite 50?

We were only going to invite our families to his birthday party. My son gets freaked out when groups of people stare at him. He sticks out his bottom lip and cries until we remove him from their vision. Also, with my husband being unemployed, we are trying to save money.

However, somehow, it has turned from 10 invited people to about 35.

We decided to invite the neighbors because we really enjoy their company, they have four kids, and they invited us to their son' s party. Then we thought, if we invite one neighbor with kids, we need to invite all the neighbors with kids so no child is left out. After all, the party will be in the front yard. And we really like all of our neighbors. We live in a fantastic, middle-income, older neighborhood where everyone is down-to-earth and non-fancy. I like non-fancy. Fancy is exhausting.

So, during one of the most difficult times in my life, I have to organize a birthday party for 35 people and my brain is no where near organized enough right now to do it. This is why it is time to find the humor in life again. Times have been tough, but we're makin' it.

I just realized I never found chairs for the party. Better find some chairs. Fast.

And tables. Crap.

  5. I'm so sorry to read about your miscarriage. I admire how you are deciding to be positive and find humor in things...you could be an inspiration to many. I was reading your profile and my girlfriend also has celiac. What a blessing that you both figured out what the problem was...she feels sooo much better.
    I'm now following you.

  6. I am so sorry about your m/c. You are so right it is a very surreal thing to go through. Not a great birthday present.

Yayy for trying again in 6-8 weeks. That is wonderful. I will be crossing fingers and toes for you guys, and sending out some prayers.

Excited to see how the birthday party turns out. We just had one in June. They can get huge so fast. :)

The shirt you liked was an iron on I found in the clearance section of Walmart. Near the party tablecloths and such. You may look since you might be in that section this week. :) Two for a dollar.

  9. Oh the parties are always turn out to be a lot more people than we had originally planned. However, we have about 30 guests with just close family members. Yikes!

I hope all turns out well for your sons party. Are you doing the whole theme and all? My boys always get excited about picking out a theme. At 1 though they really don't care much.

I'm really sorry to hear about your m/c. I hope that you continue to heal and feel better over time. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Oh, and last but not least, I'm following you from MBC!

    Hugs,
    Momma Such

  10. I just found (and am following) your blog through MBC and I wanted to tell you how touching your posts are. It takes a brave woman to share such personal matters with the internet when you're hurting.

I hope the party goes well, even though it'll be a lot of work, I'm sure everyone will have so much fun!

  11. Hi Amy,
So i hoped over here after you left me you little message, i'm so sorry about your miscariage! i know that feeling of "what if's" and just don't go there, that is my advice (for what it's worth) you can always find a "what if" but the best way to look at it is "everything happens for a reason." i am a firm believer in that now, after raising 2 daughters both premies and one with special needs... keep smiling, you have a beautiful child whose birthday you are going to celebrate.. just take it day by day.. i used to "make" everything for my kids bday parties, it is a bit of work but looking back on them i'm so glad i did. you can be "creative" with just about anything on any budget... keep smiling and stop by anytime!
    hugs,

  12. stopped by to say "hi" as you "followed" recently. looks like a heavy week to be introduced. I am really sorry about the miscarriage. And the job hunt. Sounds like you've got a lot going on!
Birthday parties - lots of non fancy types are great with 1.) not opening presents then because it stressed the little guy out 2.) bringing their own chairs 3.) they'll even bring their own beverages
bubbles are an inexpensive easy thing to have on hand for the neighborhood kids

hope it goes well and I hope you have fun with it!
