No More Ugly Betty?

I just found out my favorite show, Ugly Betty, has been cancelled. This show brought me so much pleasure. I absolutely loved it. I must go and grieve.
Very, very sad.

Pajama Time

So, I have had a cold all week, but today was by far the worst. I woke up at 4 am with stomach cramps and started having tummy troubles around 6 am. Plus, my cold symptoms were worse - sore throat, headache, ear ache, stuffy nose. Icky. I had to stay home from my part-time job and I stayed in bed until 3 pm, sleeping on and off all day. I haven't done that since before my son was born.

I was lucky that today is Saturday and my husband was home to watch Max. He took care of all parenting duties and didn't even come in the room to ask me questions, like "What should I feed Max for breakfast?" or "What should I feed Max for lunch?" or "What does Max want? He's fussy." or "Where are Max's shoes?" etc. He took care of everything and brought me Gatorade and bananas. He let me sleep the day away.

Steve had to work at his part-time job tonight, so I eventually had to get up and take over. When I got out of bed, I found this:

Max still in his dinosaur pajamas at 4 pm.

The yellow floatie vest came later. Max insisted on wearing this vest all night long.

Why is it that whenever my husband watches our son by himself, Max stays in his pajamas. All day. Are all men like this or just mine? My husband even took our son to a friend's house this morning and didn't change him out of his pj's. Then, after lunch, he needed his pajamas changed because of a scrambled egg incident, and my husband just put him in another pair of pajamas.

This isn't the first time this has happened. I've come home from work on Saturdays around 3-4 pm to find my son in his pj's. I'm not sure what the hold up is...my husband says he keeps him in his pj's for comfort. My husband is BIG on comfort. He loves tucking in our dog at night, just so he is cozy. Our dog, Meeko, even sleeps on his own down comforter. I'm not kidding.

I have basically been sick for the last two months straight - as soon as my morning sickness got better, I got a stomach bug, then a cold, then another stomach bug. I feel bad for this baby in my belly - when I was pregnant with Max, I never had morning sickness and I stayed healthy for the entire nine months, therefore, I ate really healthy, organic foods and felt wonderful.

This poor baby has gotten nothing but gingerale and cereal and popcorn, with an occassional bowl of Rocky Road ice cream and salty chips. And lots of applesauce. For both my baby's sakes, I hope I feel normal soon.

Here is one more picture of Max in his floatie vest and dinosaur pajamas. He wore this vest until he went to bed tonight. He was very proud of it and totally ready for a flood.

So many things Right

There are so many things right about today.

First of all, I am writing a post two days in a row. I know, I'm excited too.

Second, for the first time in what seems like five or six months, the sun is shining outside and it is 63 degrees! Hallelujah and Amen! I love all seasons, however, I am a Leo and my ruling planet is the Sun.

I seem to thrive in sunlight and warm swimming pools and sun dresses and flip flops. I feel the most like myself. Plus, this year, I will be big and pregnant during the summer, so who cares what I look like in a swimsuit? I'm not afraid to bust out the tankini and let my round tummy lead the way to the pool.

I so want to take my son to the park this afternoon after his nap, but we both have had colds all week and I'm not sure it is the best idea. His nose is crusty and runny and stopped up all at the same time. I feel so sorry for the little guy. And I feel sorry for my furniture...I've caught him wiping his nose on anything he can find. Doesn't that make you want to come over to my house and sit on my couch?

Also, for the first time ever...drum roll please...my son ate orange slices today. I know, I'm excited too. Bananas have been the only fruit he would eat until now. We ventured out this morning and went to the grocery store - since we have been sick, I haven't been to the store all week and we were out of food! We went to Harp's and they had samples all over the deli and produce sections. Don't you just love samples?

I started giving my son samples just to see what he would eat. And you know what? He ate a spicy pepperoni and mozzarella pinwheel, which blew me away. I can't even get him to eat kid-friendly foods like mac n cheese or mashed potatoes, but he likes spicy pepperoni.

Then, I gave him a naval orange slice. I didn't think he would eat it because I've tried oranges several times before, but what do you know? He held onto that rind and shoved his little cheeks into the orange and ate like a madman, all the while grunting and saying, "Mmmmmmmmm." I couldn't believe it.

I think it is probably a faux-pas to go back for seconds, but I didn't care. My son was eating something healthy! So, I got him a second slice. And when he finished that one, I got him a third. I would have gotten him a fourth, but I didn't want to seem too greedy. The produce people were staring.

Then, my sister called and said all of her fertility tests were normal, so she is good to keep trying to have a baby!

And finally, I bought my favorite smoked honey mustard at Harp's, which I totally forgot was my favorite. How awesome to remember!
I hope everyone else is having a good day, as well. As long as my son doesn't dump fruit punch down the front of his shirt (on purpose, I might add) like he did yesterday, or throw two book ends at the coffee table (and chip the table, I might add) like he did yesterday, then today might be good ALL DAY. Yesterday, not so good.

UPDATE: 30 MINUTES LATER

Okay, maybe I celebrated my good day too soon. My son woke up from his nap after only 20 minutes (he usually sleeps for 2-3 hours), crying, because his nose is so nasty. And our booger sucker busted a seam. So, I tried to find our second one, but it is lost. Nowhere to be found. Meanwhile, Max keeps crying for 20 minutes, only making his stuffy, runny, crusty nose worse. And my morning sickness came back. And I think I might cry, too. No park today. At least the first half of the day was stellar. I'll always remember you, morning of Friday, March 5th, 2010.

Playing Catch Up

So, the Poo Poo Party. It was about what you would expect - an evening of bathroom humor.

The party last Saturday was only for little boys, so the girls all had to stay in the living room, while the boys ate cake and ice cream and played with whoopie cushions in the dining room (the girls got cake and ice cream later). I, however, being the only mother there of a toddler, got to sit in with the boys because I had to feed my son his cake. The boys had a blast with their whoopie cushions, trying to gross out the mothers and sisters in the house, while sucking the cake off their Spiderman and Batman plastic rings (which were on the cake for decoration). It really was a spectacular idea - my neighbors have been trying to get their three-yr old son to poop in the potty for months. He would pee in the potty, but not poop. Finally, the idea of getting his own poo poo party if he pooped in the potty for seven days in a row with no accidents was the motivation that he needed.

Monday, Max and I both had doctor's appointments. I made Max's 18-month well-child check-up at 7:30 am so we wouldn't have to wait. He isn't the best at waiting. And guess what? We STILL had to wait for over 30 minutes in the waiting room. How busy can they be at 7:30 am? Didn't they just open? I was so frustrated. I can't wait until we can afford to take Max off of government insurance so we can CHOOSE our pediatrician's office. That was a luxury I always took for granted until now.

Max gained two pounds from his 15-month check-up, now weighing 28 pounds. I'm not sure how since he never eats, but I was super happy. And he is in the 95% for height, which he always has been, but I was afraid he might shrink or something. You know, lack of nutrition since the boy won't eat anything outside of chicken nuggets and fish sticks.

Later that afternoon, my wonderful friend Erin and her son, McCoy, came over to babysit Max while I went to the doctor. Earlier in the afternoon, I nearly fainted and my vision blurred out so I was anxious to talk to my OBGYN about it. The lab drew my blood and found my blood sugar to be low and my insulin levels to be high, so it was no wonder I almost passed out. She said I need to eat more protein while I'm pregnant, which is no surprise. Since becoming pregnant, proteins and dairy foods have not been my friends. Fruits and sweet foods have been the only things I can stomach. And with my husband not returning home from work most days until 6:30 or 7 pm, I am too tired to cook anything for dinner by then. Max's energy and curiosity levels usually won't allow me to cook without someone else there to watch him. So, most nights, dinner is cereal and popcorn and a prenatal vitamin. Delicious.

I heard the baby's hearbeat at my appointment! The heartbeat was in the 160's. Max's heartbeat was always in the 140's.

Since I am 35, the doctor offered me extra tests, like an ultrasound to measure the back of the baby's neck to determine the likelihood of Down's Syndrome, or the amniocentesis test to determine birth defects. But, we decided against the tests. Nothing could make me abort this child and knowing that he or she has Down's Syndrome wouldn't change anything. We would just worry for the next six months. We're just going on faith.

Well, hopefully I can read up on your blogs before the little one wakes from his nap! This is the first day in a long time that I haven't needed to sleep while Max sleeps. I am starting my second trimester this week, so maybe the nausea and exhaustion will be behind me for a while!!
